The history of Ace Hardware
Ace Hardware was started in 1924 by 5 men in Chicago and has since grown into a very successful organization. Ace Hardware locations include all over the U.S. and overseas locations too, with headquarters in Illinois. They went international in 1990, and established stores in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and the Middle East.
This store was named after the ace fighter pilots in WWI. They are known for being able to overcome everything, and thats the approach the company took to their business, too. Wed say it worked - theyre still going strong after almost 100 years in the business!
Ace Hardwares celebrity collaborators
Did you know that Ace Hardwares ads often feature celebrities and well-known figures? Over the years, quite a few famous folks have helped them promote their lines.
One of the first was Connie Stevens, an actress who was famous for being int he T.V. show Hawaiian Eye. Actress Suzanne Somers followed as the next celebrity commerical presenter. John Madden, and NFL coach and then later NFL commentator, also did some commericials for Ace.
Their famous commerical tagline is "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man", although "man" was replaced with "folks" in 1989. They still use "Ace is the place for..." in commercials.
The current face of Ace as their Helpful Hardware Man is Lou Manfredini, a television and radio personality whos also an expert in all things home improvement. He hosts a few differenet radio programs related to fixing up things around your house (like "Mr. Fix-It" on WGN Chicago) and a television show, too ("HouseSmarts TV).
