The origins of Home Depot
In 1978, The Home Depot was founded with the idea that it would be the largest home improvement superstore. Today, it is! Home Depot locations include not only the U.S., but also Canada and Mexico. The biggest store they own is in New Jersey, and it's an astonishing 217,000 square feet big.
Home Depot beats out all of its competitors and claims the top spot in the home improvement retailer industry in the United States. Its nearest rival is fellow home improvement store Lowe's, which comes in second place.
A marriage proposal in the aisles of Home Depot became a viral video sensation.
When you’re thinking of romantic places to propose, a hardware store may not be the first thing that comes to mind – but for Spencer Stout, that’s exactly where he proposed to his boyfriend Dustin. After their first date, the two went to Home Depot so Dustin could show Spencer the wood he’d used to build furniture for his house.
Two years after they started dating, Spencer realized he wanted to propose and chose Home Depot as the location. He also arranged a huge flash mob of their friends and family to dance in the lumber aisle to accompany the proposal.
Luckily, after all that effort, Dustin said yes! The video, posted on Spencer’s YouTube account, has over 13 million views and thousands of comments from well-wishers from all over the globe.
