Party City sells supplies for parties all in one place. They're the biggest party supply retailer in the United States and Canada.
All about Party City
Party City is a chain of American stores selling party supplies and costumes. Party City Canada and Halloween City also fall under the Party City Brand. They have 900 locations worldwide.
With their slogan “Nobody Has More Party for Less”, you might not expect to find many Party City coupons, but that’s not the case! Their website, www.partycity.com, has an entire section dedicated to coupons and special offers.
You can also find information about Party City hours and find a Party City near you via the website.
The history of Party City
Party City's founder, Steve Mandell, saw a business opportunity when he realized that most party goods were sold at small local stores, so shoppers might have to go a few different places before finding exactly what they neeeded. So, he created a one-stop location where they'd be able to do all their party shopping in one place. The first Party City opened in 1986.
After a successful year in business, Mandell tried out a big section dedicated to Halloween. It was so successful that stores started to sell Party City Halloween costumes year-round, and they're still one of their most popular items today. Even if customers don't buy the items in, say, April, they still get a chance to become familiar with them.
Today, there are over 900 Party City locations in the United States and Canada.
Party City costumes cause controversy among parents
Your local Party City store might not seem like a place that’s ripe for conflict, but a line of Party City Halloween costumes recently caused a big controversy.
The issue? The Party City costumes for girls on sale that year. Mom Lin Kramer was at one of Party City’s locations looking for a costume for her 3-year-old daughter. She was scared by what sorts of costumes were available – such as little girls’ costumes labeled “sexy.”
Kramer posted an open letter on the store’s Facebook page that explained the issues with Party City’s Halloween costumes for girls, including sexualized outfits and a lack of career-based costumes compared to offerings for boys. Her letter caught the attention of major media outlets around the United States.
This isn’t the only time Party City Halloween costumes have caught flak. They were also criticized for selling Native American costumes.
