The history of The Body Shop
The Body Shop was founded in 1976 in the United Kingdom after its founder, Anita Roddick, was inspired by a shop in California that sold naturally-scented lotions and soap. She opened up her own version with a similar idea and natural beauty products - and it took off! Today, there are over 2,600 Body Shop store locations around the world.
The Body Shop gives back to the planet
One of the things that makes The Body Shop different is their focus on using natural products and never testing on animals. But those arent the only things that the store does to help the environment and the planet! Here are a few other things they do.
Their first big social activism project was with Greenpeace in 1986 when they joined the Save the Whales campaign. That kicked off other promotions that were linked to similar causes, including sponsoring local charity events.
In the mid-90s, they became one of the early companies to use social audits and promote socially responsible practices as part of their business, like community trade that supports communities in need and also pays them fair prices for the products they buy from them.
They also have The Body Shop Foundation to support projects based around human rights, environmental causes, and aniaml protection around the world.
