The history of GapKids

GapKids debuted in 1986 as a way to cater to their baby boomer customers, who had started having children of their own. The concept took off and was a huge success. Today, there are over 3,700 Gap locations worldwide, around 2,400 of which are located in the United States.

GapKids is already a well known brand thanks to both its popularity and the popularity of its parent brand the Gap. But did you know that it occasionally gets an added boost from some of the big names that do collaborations for its store? 

One of those is Kate Spade, who created a line of childrens clothing inspired by their brands Kate Spade New York and Jack Spade. The collection went on sale in 2014 and was only available for 2 weeks! The clothes were created with the holidays in mind, based around a story of a brother and sister's magical adventure to get to grandmother's house for the holidays. 

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has also worked with GapKids. She worked wtih the stores on a collection that was all about celebrating your individual style. There were lots of bright colors and fun graphic prints.
