The history of Musician's Friend
Musician's Friend actually used to be an online and mail order only seller. But in 2000, Guitar Center bought them and the two companies merged. That makes them the biggest seller of musical instruments in the world! Previously, Musician's Friend had been headquartered in Oregon, but because of the merger it's now part of Guitar Center's headquarters in California.
What other companies are now part of Guitar Center?
Musician's Friend started out as a mail order and online business run by couple Rob and DeAnna Eastman. Due to theirh ard work and deep love for and knowledge of music and musicians, their company quickly grew. In 2000, it was bought out by Guitar Center and merged with them to create one giant supplier of musical instruments.
But Musician's Friend isn't the only store this has happened to. Guitar Center has quite a few other stores, too! One of those is Music & Arts, which had previoulsy been the largest seller of school music in the entire country. They also had a subsidiary brand called American Music Group. Guitar Center snapped up both of those in 2005.
The following year, Guitar Center bought four stores from a company called Hermes, which has locations in southern Texas and throughout Central and South America.
And in 2007, Musician's Friend (as part of Guitar Center) bought Dennis Bamber, Inc., along with their brands Woodwind and Brasswind, Music 123, and Lyons Music.
