The history of Zumiez
The very first Zumiez store was opened in 1978 in Seattle by founder Thomas D. Campion, although back then it was called "Above the Belt". The store grew increasingly popular throughout the 1980s and started adding stores all over Washington state. This was also when they changed their name from Above the Belt to Zumiez.
Today, there are over 650 Zumiez locations and over 1,650 employees. They have stores both in the United States and Canada, and are well known as a place to go to get clothes and gears for action sports.

Some of today's skateboarding stars once skated in the competition themselves, including Tom Asta, Alec Majerus, Jack Olson, Ishod Wair, and Chris Wimer.
