The history of Zumiez
The very first Zumiez store was opened in 1978 in Seattle by founder Thomas D. Campion, although back then it was called "Above the Belt". The store grew increasingly popular throughout the 1980s and started adding stores all over Washington state. This was also when they changed their name from Above the Belt to Zumiez.
Today, there are over 650 Zumiez locations and over 1,650 employees. They have stores both in the United States and Canada, and are well known as a place to go to get clothes and gears for action sports.
Zumiez runs its very own skateboarding contest!
What better way to prove you're a cool brand for skateboarders and skateboarding fans than to run your very own skateboarding contest? That's exactly what Zumiez did!
The store is well known for being a place to go for action sports fans and athletes alike to get cool clothes that express their interests. You can get a skateboard while you're there, too. And maybe you can sign up for the Best Foot Forward skateboarding contest!
The contest was started in 2007 and has been going strong over since. It's actually become the biggest amateur skateboarding contest in the entire country! It stops by 35 different cities across the United States and is totally free to enter, meaning that a lot of people can participate.
Some of today's skateboarding stars once skated in the competition themselves, including Tom Asta, Alec Majerus, Jack Olson, Ishod Wair, and Chris Wimer.
