The history of West Marine

Randy Repass founded West Marine in 1968, and opened up his very first operation in Sunnyvale, California. That was called West Coast Ropes, and was actually an operation run out of his garage and sold nylon ropes. The first actual store was in Palo Alto, California, and opened in 1975. Today, there ware over 270 West Marine Locations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. There also used to be stores in Turkey, though those have since closed won.
