Under Armour is a popular brand of sports clothing and activewear.
All about Under Armour
Under Armour sells clothing and footwear for all different kinds of sporing activites. Their products were a nearly instant hit with the performance apparel sector, as they have products that are specifically designed for particular activites or situations. For instance, their ColdGear products help keep the wearer warm no matter what the activity, while their Coldblack shirts are supposed to help keep athletes cool by reflecting the sun. Under Armour shoes are their fastest-growing product.

The history of Under Armour
Kevin Plank founded Under Armour in 1996, when he was a new grad from the University of Maryland, where he'd been the special teams captain for their football team. He started the business literally out of his grandmother's basement, and drove up and down the East Coast with his products in the trunk of his car. At the end of the year, he made a $17,000 team sale.
The inspiration came from when he was tired of having to change sweaty t-shirts while he played football. But he noticed one thing - that his compression shorts always stayed dry. He made a t-shirt out of a similar material, and it was an instant hit!
USA Today helped make Under Armour famous
Under Armour had a bit of luck making it big - as well as having a product that there was a definite gap in the market for. They managed to get on the cover of USA Today magazine when their cover featured athlete Jeff George wore an Under Armour top for the photo shoot.
After that, Georgia Tech called and requested 10 shirts. This set off a chain of more orders from Division I football programs, including North Carolina State and Arizona State University. Players loved the new tees, and the word about these great new pieces started to spread. At the same time, they launched new lines of clothing, like ColdGear and TurfGear.
By the end of their first year in business, Under Armour had sold 500 of their HeatGear shirts. Just two years later, they got $100,000 in orders!
Not too shabby for a business started out of your grandma's basement, right?
