The history of Shopko
Shopko was founded in 1962 by pharmacist James Ruben in Geren Bay, Wisconsin. He was new in town and wanted to open up his own store that combined a retail storefront with health care services available, too. His idea made his store, then called Shopco, one of hte very first stores that had eye care and pharmaceutical services in the store itself. Later on down the line, the stores were renamed ShopKo, which over the years shifted to Shopko.
Today, there are over 350 Shopko locations spread out across the United States and present in the Pacific Northwest, West, and Central areas of the country.
