The history of RadioShack
Brothers Theodore and Milton Deutschmann founded Radio Shack (with a space) in 1921 to provide supplies for people who were interested in amateur radio. They had both a retail store location and a mail-order catalog. They managed to expand to nine stores by the 1960s but soon struggled. That's when Charles D. Tandy of the Tandy Corporation stepped in and bought the company.
Tandy turned the nearly bankrupt business into a profitable operation. He got rid of the expensive mail-order business and streamlined things. Soon, the company started growing again.
At one point, RadioShack was the largest vendor of telecom products in the world, but it declined with the arrival of online stores and a changing market. In 2015, it filed for bankruptcy.
RadioShack even had its own professional cycling team !!!
In 2009, RadioShack took a step towards the sporting world by sponsoring its own road cycling racing team. It was called Team RadioShack and featured Johan Bruyneel as the general manager, Dirk Demol as the team manager, and Lance Armstrong as the team leader and co-owner.
Team RadioShack competed in lots of big cycling events, including the UCI ProTour and the Grand Tours. The team also promoted Armstrong's Livestrong campaigns that fought against cancer.
