The history of Quiznos
Quiznos was founded in 1981 by Jimmy Lambatos in Denver, Colorado. He sold it in 1991 to Richard and Rick Schaden, who grew the chain to around 5,000 Quiznos locations! You can find a Quiznos restaurant in every single one of the 50 states, which makes it the country's second-biggest sub sandwich chain (after Subway). There are also locations in many other countries, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., Russia, India, China, and more.
Quiznos makes a splash with its advertising
It can be hard to get a new company to stand out with so many different ads and brands clamoring for buyers' attention - but Quiznos managed to do it with its first big advertising push! The sandwich shop has since aired a lot of great advertising that attracts the right kind of attention.
Their first hit was their 2002 Super Bowl ad campaign, which had a silly take on how revolutionary the invention of a toasted sandwich is, comparing it to things like people wearing bushes instead of pants).
They also had a hit with their 2006 campaign with the slogan "Eat Up", which came with the tagline they still use today: "Mmmm...toasty."
They also ran the "Prime Rib Cheesestake Challenge" where they challenged competitor Subway on how much meat their sandwiches had. Quiznos said their version had twice hte meat, and unsatisfied customers could fill out a form and get a free sandwich.
