The origins of Nordstrom
Nordstrom originally opened as a shoe retailer in 1901. Its founder, John W. Nordstrom, came to the U.S. from Sweden and worked hard to launch what has today become an interntionally recognized brand.
You can find Nordstrom locations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The upscale fashion retailer now has 323 stores in 38 states. Not too bad for a shop that started out as just a shoe store!
Nordstrom also operates Nordstrom Rack (which offers discounted goods), Trunk Club, Jeffrey, and Nordstrom Last Chance.
Nordstrom uses pop-up shops to target certain customers, working with everything from music festivals to food fanatics.
Pop-up shops are temporary stores that “pop up” one day and might disappear the next. Department store Nordstrom has started opening up their own pop-up shops at special events to target certain customers.
They debuted a line of pod pop-up shops at the SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival in Austin, Texas, offering products like customized totes and beauty products alongside extras like photo booths, beauty bars, and phone charging stations.
Nordstrom also arranges monthly “Pop-In” collections in selected stores and online. The Pop-In project is run by food fanatic and VP of Creative Products Olivia Kim, who curates a collection with a monthly theme like road trips or France.
