The history of Lush
Lush was founded by Liz Weir and Mark Constantine, who started out when they were developing products for The Body Shop. They were the largest supplier for the company, and the Body Shop bought their product formulas. This meant that they couldn't open a retail shop, so the two started out with a mail order cosmetics business.
This evolved into Lush, which was officially founded on November 12, 1995 - and has been a firm favorite with beauty fans ever since!
All of Lush's products are 100% vegetarian and vegan
It might sound strange to call a beauty product vegetarian or vegan; after all, it's not something you're going to eat (or, in any case, you definitely should not eat it!). But that's eactly what Lush prides itself on its line of cosmetics and beauty products. They're all made from natural ingredients that aren't animal based.
Rather than using animal based products, you'll instead find things like avocado butter, vanilla beans, fresh papaya, grapefruit juice, and coconut in their beauty collection. Most of the products are vegan, although there are a few that contain non-vegan ingredients like honey, beeswax, milk, and eggs.
Because the ingredients are made out of fresh items, the products don't have a very long shelf life compared to tradtional stores. Most last around 14 months, and many of the stores don't sell products once they're more than 4 or 5 months old.
