Founder Bob Hurley was inspired by Australian brand Billabong, and actually started out selling their stuff. But in the late 1990s the license was up for renewal, and he and his team decided that they wanted to start their own brand instead. Their first year, they made about $70 million in sales!
They combined their love of surfing, the support of friends and family, and a lot of passion and hard work to pull it off.
