The story of how Hurley came to be
There are lots of new brands being started every single day. But what sets a successful brand apart from the ones that don't make it? There are lots of different factors - hard work, good timing, a great idea, and a dose of luck. But each case is different, so we're going to talk a bit about what helped make Hurley so successful!
Founder Bob Hurley was inspired by Australian brand Billabong, and actually started out selling their stuff. He liked their mix of great surf shorts that had a punk rock edge, and Billabong USA was licensed. But in the late 1990s the license was up for renewal, and he and his team decided that they wanted to start their own brand instead. Their first year, they made about $70 million in sales!
They combined their love of surfing, the support of friends and family, and a lot of passion and hard work to pull it off.
