El Pollo Loco was founded in 1975 in Guasave, Mexico, in 1975, and started expanding throughout Southern California in 1980 with a store in Los Angeles. It was acquired by Denny's, which expanded even further, though it's been acquired by other companies since. Today, there are approximately 430 El Pollo Loco locations.
