The history of Eddie Bauer
Eddie Bauer opened up his very first store in 1920, when he was just 21 years old. The store specialized in tennis equipment, and was at the back of a store that sold stuff for hunting and fishing. Soon, Eddie expanded his line and sold more general sports prodcuts.
The stores kept on growing and growing, and Eddie started attracting attention for his high-quality outdoors goods. Today, there are 370 Eddie Baeur stores.
Eddie Bauer invented revolutionary outdoors clothing
Did you know that Eddie Bauer is the inventor behind some of the best outdoors clothing that's around today? A lot of it was inspired by a fishing trip that Mr. Bauer took one winter.
The trip was to Washington, and temperatures got so cold that Baeur got hypothermia. After his trip and after he'd recovered, he started thinking of ways to come up with clothing that was warmer than the layers and layer of heavy woolen clothing that were worn at the time. One of the main downsides to this type of clothing is that it was really bulky.
So, what did Eddie come up with? A quilted down jacket. He got a ptent for his design in 1940, and it was the first ever jacket of its type in the United States. The jacket was called "The Skyliner" and sold in his stores.
