Dunkin Donuts is probably nearly as well known for its coffee as for its donuts these days!
All about Dunkin Donuts
Dunkin Donuts is a donut company, but today they sell more than just donuts. It's one of the biggest stores that sells coffee and baked goods in the entire world! Apart from donuts, you can buy bagels, cookies, muffins, and sandwiches, as well as all kinds of creations of both hot and iced drinks. One of their popular concoctions is the "Coolatta", which is an iced drink that they do in fruit juice versions and coffee and cream versions.
Coupons are available for maximum savings on their already low prices. More often than not, you will find that there is a combo promotion going on so you can get the best bang for your buck! Dunkin Donuts is a great way to start your morning, and now they have coffee products that you buy at your local grocery store so you can avoid the shop. They recently reduced trans fats by switching the types of oils they bake with.
The history of Dunkin Donuts
The original Dunkin Donuts was called Open Kettle in 1948, then Kettle Donuts in 1949, and finally Dunkin Donuts in 1950. Third time's the charm, right?
It was founded by William Rosenburgh, who got the idea from when he sold food at construction sites and factories. There, the workers loved by coffee and donuts - so that's exactly what he started selling. By 1963, there were 100 locations.
But that's small beans compared to today; there are 12,000 Dunkin Donuts locations in 36 different countries!
Dunkin Donuts' iconic slogan
Dunkin Donuts has had a few slogan changes over the years (actually, they've had at least 20 since the store opened in 1950), but the current one seems to be a winner! In 2006, "America Runs on Dunkin" was unveiled as the newest slogan, and it's stuck ever since.
It's been helped by using songs by rock group They Might Be Giants in the television commericals with the slogan, particularly a series they used to bump their sales for the summer.
They've also released quite a few commercials that make fun of one of their biggest rivals: Starbucks. They've got one that makes fun of the names that Starbucks and other coffee chains give to their drinks, which customers sometimes find hard to pronounce. One of their punchlines was actually "Delicious lattes from Dunkin Donuts. You order them in English."
Celebrities have participated in Dunkin Donuts ad campaigns, like John Goodman and Rachael Ray.
