A little bit more about David Yurman the man

David Yurman means high quality jewlery for many shoppers. It's also the name of the founder behind the chain of jewlery stores. Here's a bit more about the man behind the label.

He was born on OCtober 12, 1942. Sybil Kleinrock, who would become his wife and partner, was born two months later and just a few miles away.

His passion for art started when he saw a book of prehistoric cave paintings at age 11 at his local library in 1953.

He learned the welding techniques he still uses in his jewelry line today when he was a junior in high school. He learned from the artist Roger Rileau in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

He was also inspired by the beatnik generation, and hitchhiked all the way to Big Sur, California. After that, he moved to New York's Greenwich Village and began an apprenticeship under sculptor Jacques Lipchitz.
