Avis, also called Avis Rent a Car, is a car rental company with locations both in the United States and overseas in countries in North America, Europe, and South America and Australia, New Zealand, and India. It's the third biggest car rental company in the entire world (their competition Hertz is the biggest car rental company).

The history of Avis

It all started out with just three cars at a small airport! That was back in 1948, and it was opened by Warren Avis at the Willow Run Airport in Michigan. Over the next few years, it started opening up more and more branches. By 1953, Avis had grown so much that it was the second biggest car rental company in the United States. When its tenth anniversary rolled around, they had international offices in Canada and Mexico, as well as in Europe. 

The company is currently owned by the Avis Budget Group.
