The history of American Eagle Outfitters.
American Eagle Outfitters is an apparel and accessories retailer with over 900 stores worldwide. It was founded by Mark and Jerry Silverman in 1977, which is why you'll often see "1977" or just "77" referenced on their clothing.
The original store sold leisurewear and things for outdoor activities (like hiking or camping). In 1989, they decided to focus just on the American Eagle Outfitters line. For a while, the stores were losing money, so the brand made another shift to the store it is today: a place to buy casual clothing for both men and women.
Today, the store is led by Jay Schottenstein and there are over 900 American Eagle locations.
American Eagle Outfitters donated one tree for every pair of jeans or shorts sold from a certain line.
American Eagle Outfitters teamed up with the Student Conservation Association for a campaign to celebrate Earth Day. The campaign was called “Buy, One, Get One Tree.” For every pair of their Flex Shorts or their AEO Denim X line that sold, they would donate a dollar so the association could plant a tree (up to 100,000 trees).
800 of their stores participated in the offer, which was the ninth year that American Eagle and the Student Conservation Association worked together.
When the trees are planted, they’ll span a distance of 500 miles from New York City to Detroit. The 100,000 trees will produce enough oxygen for 200,000 people to breathe every single day.
