Cross was founded in 1846 in Providence, Rhode Island. The founder, Richard Cross, came from a family of jewelers, and started out making silver and gold casings for pencils. Today, it's one of the best-known brands that makes quality writing supplies. They are headquartered in Providence today, though at one point they moved to Lincoln.
